#5 Top Rated Seller Tip-Assume ALL of Your Buyers are On A Dial-up Connection
You should assume all of your buyers are on a dial-up connection because you never know how many are. I recently read where in 2008 only 10% of Americans still used a dial-up connection but in 2009 that number is increasing because some are having to give up their broadband connection due to economic conditions. Even if it is only 5% I cannot afford to loose 5% of my customers. Can you?
Many of you have probably never even used a dial-up connection. Do yourself a favor and find someone that has dial-up and try to view your listings. I think you will be very disappointed.
How do you insure that your listings will load ok on a dial-up? The simplest way is to make sure your photos are fast-loading. This means reducing the file size so they will load faster. Most of my photos are under 20K. That is 20K, not 20MB. If you do not know the file size of your photos you can pretty well assume they are too large. Most photo editing software today can reduce the size for you quite easily. If you do not understand about file size I heartily recommend you spend a few minutes learning. BTW, when I say file size I am not talking about how large your photo appears on the screen. File size is how much bandwidth is used to load & upload your photos. Think of it as a couple of boxes. One can be empty and the other full of rocks. Looking at the 2 boxes closed you could easily assume they are the same. When you try to pick the boxes up you can tell a BIG difference. Try to make sure all of your photos are empty, not loaded with rocks.
Another way to maximize your lisitngs for dial-up is to cut out ALL unnecessary graphics. I realize a lot of these graphics make your listings look cool, neat, etc BUT are they necessary?
