#9 Top Rated Seller Tip-Take Advantage of Celebrity Deaths
When a celebrity dies items pertaining to them or their lives sell at a premium on eBay.
Several years ago when the Pope died I sold several books for $12.95 each on eBay that had been listed on Amazon.com for several years for less than $1. When Dale Earnhardt was killed I sold every VHS I had about NASCAR even if it wasn't about Dale Earnhardt. When Charleton Heston died I sold an autographed copy of one of his books almost immediately. I could go on & on.
Every time I hear about a celebrity dying I quickly check my inventory to see if I have any item that pertains to them or their life in any way. I immediately list the item on eBay with a 1 or 3 day auction with a Buy It Now Price. I have never had one of these auctions to go to completion. I don't think any item has ever been listed for more than 4 hours before I get a buyer using Buy it Now.
The secret here is to list the item ASAP. If you wait a day or more the market is usually so crowded that the chances of selling your item is greatly reduced. A favorite past time of mine is doing a search using the deceased celebrity's name for a day or two after their passing. The # of listings for that particular search will amaze you.
As a side note. I have never seen an increase in sales on Amazon.com when a celebrity dies so if I do have those items on Amazon I immediately take it down and list it on eBay.
