PayPal Jason Says Glitch Should Be Fixed 10/28
In my last post HERE I pointed out a glitch on PayPal where sellers were not receiving e-mails when e-checks cleared.
I had contacted PayPal Jason about this on 10/1 via e-mail and had not received an answer.
After my last post I did a little detective work and found that Jason addressed this issue in the very last segment of his radio broadcast on 10/13. He said he had received several e-mails and had contacted the tech department. They told him it should be fixed on the night of the 28th. You can listen to the broadcast HERE The part about the glitch is in the 4th segment.
I have several questions about this.
1) Why did I not receive an answer to my e-mail of 10/1?
2) Why does it take so long to fix this? They must not see it as a problem.
3) If PayPal knows there is a problem why are they still sending e-mails telling you will be contacted when the e-check clears? I received one today and here is what it says
Hello Gary Overton,
This email confirms that you have received a Pending eCheck Instant Purchase Payment for $X.XX USD from XXXX XXXX(XXXX@aol.com).
ECheck Payments remain "Un-cleared" until the funds have cleared from the sender's account, which usually take several business days. (Estimated completion date: XXXX XXX XXX) If you are shipping an item, please do not ship it until the funds have cleared into your PayPal account. You will be notified by email when the funds have cleared into your PayPal balance.
4) eBay, PayPal's owner says they are holding sellers to a "higher" standard. What about PayPal?
5) PayPal had a glitch earlier this week with their packing slips. That glitch was fixed in less than 24 hours after I wrote about it here. It had only been happening a few days. Why was that glitch fixed so soon and the other one that has been a problem for at least a month taking so long?

I can answer your first two questions.
Q. 1) Why did I not receive an answer to my e-mail of 10/1?.
A. Its a paypal scam to hold your money as long as possible so ebay can report it as assets to their stock holders. If you don't know your echeck has cleared you can't withdraw the money so it sits in a paypal account and ebay can tell stock holders "See how much money we have" "See how financially healthy we are" "Buy are stock"
If you notice, it takes much longer for an echeck to clear than it does for you to fund your paypal account or get money deposited in your bank account after you make a paypal withdrawal. Why? Assets. As long as paypal has your money it is an asset.
Q. 2) Why does it take so long to fix this? They must not see it as a problem.
A. It's not a problem for paypal. People think computers make mistakes but that rarely happens. Computers do exactly what they are told, they execute code and do calculations exactly the way they are programmed to do whether it is right or wrong. To a computer it makes no difference they just see code. Paypal (and ebay) take advantage of this and programs their computers to do this, then if they get caught they just claim a computer glitch and move on to another variation of the same scam.

Assets are listed on the balance sheet.Probably the most accepted accounting definition of asset is the one used by the International Accounting Standards Board.

I apologize for this mess. My first impulse was also to think this was spoof, since we wouldn’t dream of wording a communication like this now; however, having asked around, it is indeed real.Aside from how terrible and oblique this email is, what’s very apparent is that we need to ensure the team who responds to your spoof queries is informed about what is spoof and what isn’t. We’ve been less than helpful on this one and need to get better. My apologies for all the confusion: we’ll definitely work on improving this.

That's what happens in big firms, no one gives a damn and pass on the responsibility to someone else and the job never gets done.

the best of times. Buyers often think they’ve paid and don’t understand why sellers don’t ship immediately. Sellers are frustrated at having to wait up to 10 days for the funds to clear and when an echeque doesn’t clear it’s often days.

It seems that if you were beyond the limits of the current requirements for the Blue Ribbons before the change, then ironically you have not been awarded the Blue Ribbons even though you have technically met the numbers! Ouch
